Blimey. Pretty good I thought. Didn't try to do anything it couldn't. Did everything it could. Few more like that would have been nice. Oh... and
[namedropping] see that Lesley Sharp (Sky Silvestre), I deliver her post I do [/namedropping]...

Best episode of the season so far for me, beating even the mighty Fires of Pompeii into 2nd place (with Doctor's Daughter in 3rd) finally after 4 years RTD
learns how to write ER properly! It's almost a pity this wasn't his final episode because it would be a helluva blinder to go out on...

randumb thought...
another cool touch was having the emergency torches all look kind of like the good old sonic, we've had a lot of sonic this year, the sonic pen, the super sonic and now the semi-sonics (and last year we had the laser) I wonder if this is building up to something... |

Best episode this series so far.
When Moffatt finally takes the Poison Chalice, I hope he gets RTD to turn in a script every year. When he's not trying to out-big himself or second guess the plebs, RTD is the best New ER writer. Full stop. |

ushas the rani wrote: Yep. Can't quite square this with it being from the same pen as some of the real stinkers he's churned out - so what happened between Damaged Goods and this? Bizarre. Genuine surprises and weirdness in there too - the vocal echo thing, which was definitely a little more surprising than the usual "Wait! This Pizza delivery company is actually being run by MECHANOIDS!!!" |

I have to agree. On first viewing (which has been known to change with second or third), I have to say this is probably the best episode I've ever
witnessed RTD write for ER.
Disturbing. I got a chill when Skye overtook the Renegade. Also, just what WAS that on Donna's back in the "next week on ER"? |

You know what that ep was? The Triumph of Real Time TV. The most powerful eps in American TV ("Intersections in Real Time" from Babylon 5 and
"The Body" from Buffy) have done that, but on commercial TV you have to cut the scene every 12 minutes or so. Rusty obviously just decided "This
is the BBC, I can do what I want" and just proved he can go longer and harder than any scriptwriter out there.
Sadly, Larry barely mentions the ep at all, probably because he liked it and saying so would get in the way of his "I hate fans. I hate that lousy power-patting Moffat. I hate the entertainment media. Why doesn't David Tennant just f**k off?" rant. Pity - you'd have to think Larry would love an ep with barely any Donna, and ordinary humans saving the day for the ER instead of vice versa for a change. The Stacks - the site for

Yep, a good episode. Doesn't portray the ER in a very good light, though - the death of the Hostess was entirely due to his refusal to throw Sky out
earlier. And now I mention it, why was the alien trying to persuade people to throw it out of the truck anyway? And how did it immobilise the truck from a
distance, how did it rip the cabin off, and what happened to its original body (the pilot saw it coming towards them)? What did it actually want, and why does
throwing it back into its native environment do anything to harm it? As usual, the plot falls apart on a moment's consideration. Still, very effectively
creepy up until the alien starts talking in its own words, where it just sounds silly.

the death of the Hostess was entirely due to his refusal to throw Sky out earlier Precisely. The alien took advantage of that, and of his complete confidence in his ability to talk himself out of any danger. It's a fatal flaw in the ER's nature, and I bet when he finally met his end on Dronid it was due to either that or his reluctance to kill anything that's even the most obvious trap. (I won't mention the idiots wanking elsewhere because the Hostess was black and this means RTD IZ OMG RACIST. Oh shit, I mentioned it. Never mind.) I always look forward to your reviews because I know that your analytical mind is razor-sharp and if there's any deviation from strict formal logic you'll find it. The Stacks - the site for

Can't really disagree with much of what LM said on this one, except most of it is stuff that seemed obvious (didn't it?) even during the first five
minutes of Rose - back when he was in full-on gush mode. Well, I thought so anyway. Plus, it doesn't alter the fact that this episode (which he barely
mentions) was one of the better ones, perhaps even the best of the run so far.
Once again I'm not sure why he's putting so much energy into writing all that stuff. I miss his wit and ability to make hilariously pertinent points about subjects other than Moffat etc. Sigh. |
