The Return of Mr. Potato Head |

Part 2 is even better than part 1 imo, everything suddenly seems to click into gear, UNIT suddenly remember how to be proper olsdiers again, Donna really steps
upto the plate and nerd-boy grows up and goes out with a revengey-bang. Alaso Martha is quite wasted in this episode as evil-Martha is reduced to a
button-pressing wall fly and goodie-Martha has a nice little nap. I hope she gets more to do next week to make up for this week. Also creepy stalking
bunny-boiling Blonde makes a split-second return appearance on the telly. The Doctor plays the role of the 2nd Doctor very well, his bumbling about covers up
the fact he's got a brain and he's using it to outwit the Sontarans like an expert chess grandmaster. The endgame is essential padding to make him
look more heroic than he really is, as we've seen just how cold and malevolant he can be when he wants to be, something about no second chances... All in
all I reckon this is the best episode of the season so far but I feel it's not going to remain that title...

It was a lot better than last week, and I was very relieved that the Renegade had recognised Martha's clone all along.
Still don't think they're doing the goblins right, though. Except for the general, their voices were all just those of normal chatty blokes. No menace at all. I sort of feel like the whole Luke subplot could have been excised and replaced with a simple goblin-front-company thing and all we'd have lost was some fairly offensive digs at the core audience nerds and we'd have gained time to do more Martha or whoever. Next week does look good, doesn't it? |

I find it rather amusing that the Lawrence Miles review thread on the Evil Renegade Forum (formerly Outpost Homeworld) is by far the longest discussion for
this episode.

Although it's tangential at best to this week's particular episode (but what else is new?), I think LM's onto something, or at least his criticism
points in the direction of what is wrong (or, if not currently wrong, a potential source of future problems) with the revived ER. Miles seems to have a
distinct sense of What ER Should Be For, and while we can agree or disagree with him about the nature of that, at least he has it. The current production team
seem to have a sense of What ER Should Be -- successful, popular -- because they're desperate for everyone to love it as much as they used to/not to be the
people who fucked it all up. And that leads to them repeating the same old formulas over and over again.
