Lead | ||
If a limited edition hardback of Newtons Sleep was published, would you buy it? (Result) |

With most books, I prefer paperbacks. But for special ones I prefer to go for hardbacks - so I have all of Michael Marshall Smith's novels in hardback, as
well as Neal Stephenson and Chris Brookmyre's most recent few works.
Also, I have both FP hardbacks. So I'd buy both.

I'd go for paperback but if it only came out in hardback I'd buy that without a second thought. I think the best format is going to be the one that
leaves the publisher in the least vulnerable position. I don't want to see this line having to end again.

pick one format or the other and stick to it, that's why I only buy the Discworld novels in paperback, and I keep my 9DA's and 10DA's in a
different room to my NA's/MA's/8DA's/PDA's

Think I voted for hardbacks, but thinking about it I'd probably buy both. Second the call for caution and careful consideration before
possibly publishing in two formats though; figure Faction Paradox are probably a bit of a niche market and hardbacks when paperbacks were also available would
probably be a niche of a niche markets.

I miss the timeline where the FP comics were bigger than Sandman. Of course, in that timeline, Larry went on a machine-gun rampage at a sci-fi con, so perhaps
this timeline's better. (Also, Neil Gaiman is First Minister of Scotland over there.)

getting back on topic, if the hardback had something exclusive to offer, eg a prelude/foreword/afterword or maybe a few thoughts/opinions of the writer, then
it might be tempting, otherwise given the choice between an expensive hardback and a cheaper paperback I'll pick paperback every time (except when I
don't), I just don't see hard backs as exclusive or special, I see them as looking odd when stuck in between a load of paperbacks. You should see my
Riftward collection, it looks awful because it's a mix of hardbacks, tall paperbacks and standard height paperbacks, not very pretty pretty at all all
