You Brits had better start watching Joss Whedon's latest televised mindfuck. It's just been renewed for a second season despite all the odds. A word of
advice - the pilot sucks, the first four eps after that are kind of so-so, and after that it's brilliant on an Alien Bodies level. IMHO, of
course.

I liked it. Anyone who doesn't instantly give anything with any connection to Joss Whedon a thorough look, isn't into scifi or geekdom in any
substantive way
The 13th ep - made on a lower budget by Joss as an example to Fox that it could be done, will be released on DVD later this year. But with renewal news, possibly they'll also broadcast it. |

I'm pleased and astonished that it's been renewed. Network executives not only letting a good SF show run right through its first season, but giving it
a second despite poor ratings? If they hadn't messed up the early episodes and not screened the season finale, I'd assume they'd been taken over by
aliens.

Even without taking Buffy into account, Firefly was one of my favourite ever TV series, so I definitely want to see this - is it the thing with Eliza Dushku
(?) in it or am I thinking of something else?

This is the thing co-conceived by and starring everyone's favourite Mormon vampire slayer, yes. Also with a couple of other Buffy/Angel/Firefly alumni in
roles that may surprise you.
Blog speculations on the motivation for renewal centre on the following themes: 1) ratings are really not everything these days, and Hulu numbers and DVD pre-orders were apparently very healthy; 2) us Padawans for Whedon would watch a televised rendition of James Marsters reading the alphabet over and over again, so the show is guaranteed a serious if not huge audience no matter what; 3) they had nothing even half-decent to replace it with; 4) it's cheap to make. Ok, Fox are mad. Not screening Epitaph One was truly insane; that was a great episode, and a far stronger conclusion for the season.

I dunno, there. "Vows" is going to pick up where "Omega" left off, not where "E-1" left off, so you can understand how some
people might think it was better not to confuse the audience. Mind you, these are the people who thought "Echo" (the original unaired pilot) was too
"dark and confusing", so...
On the other hand, reliable sources say that it was E-1 which convinced Fox that Dollhouse had a future, so I don't know wtf's going on there. ETA: Actually, no, I've worked it out: E-1 looks so much like the grim future of Terminator that the Fox execs were motivated to cancel the Sarah Connor Chronicles on the grounds they were getting 2 for the price of 1. Season two is getting really good with the latest episode; having the show put on hold for a month is really frustrating. The season one box set would
make an ideal Christmas present for everyone you know (along with Newtons Sleep and Small Group Psychosis).

As I'm now living with my mother (this is not an ambition, just part of a much larger long-term plan) there's sadly not much point in my getting her
Newtons Sleep for Christmas. It looks like she's just going to read my copy. I think it was the role of Aphra Benn
that caught her attention. On the positive side, this means I should hopefully get to see this Dollhouse show. I'm
pretty sure it must be on one of the 9,000 channels she can get.
Weird thing (and totally irrelevant) her viewing patterns seem to be crime dramas, costume dramas (mainly for the joy of calculating Jane Austen's graveyard spin rate), and four fuckin' tons of Doctor Who. Everytime I pass through the front room on the way to make a coffee, David Tennant seems to be leaping about on the screen. Parents are weird. |

... and those lap-legged sideways-facing ultra-goits at Fox just cancelled it.
