British cabinet minister. Leading proponent of US-style PATRIOT Act / Guantanamo bay style shenanigans. Husband caught downloading pr0n on the taxpayer's
dime. No, I don't care either.

So, the lesson we've learned is: you can commit any outrage against human rights and its substrate, common decency, you can piss all over every tradition
of liberty, equality and fairness, but woe betide if you spend money you're not entitled to. What a revolting display of the ethics of the
middle-to-upper classes there.
Money is the only real thing in the minds of the people who write the newspapers and the people who buy ads in them. Money is real, and humans are just counters used to keep score in the game. The Stacks - the site for

Indeed. I'm reading up for writing an essay on in this kind of area (capitalism, art, culture) at the moment and Adorno would probably agree. I'm tempted to throw a Miles quote in there somewhere, though I'm not sure I should academically.
New game: how long can the big Brown one last?
Anyone else think our country electing fascist BNP MEPs to Europe on the anniversary weekend of D Day is in poor taste, to say the least, and insulting to those that fought fascism? *sigh*
Hopefully in the long run it'll prove to just be a blip that the mainstream will hopefully react against and it'll prove to be a one-off, but it makes me worry that if things were to if things to go to tits up in this country - either gradually or in some random catastrophic event - things could conceivably swing more to the right and/or to the detriment of the people, in a not entirely dissimilar way to the film V for Vendetta. |

Glyn, I would heartily recommend my blog linked in my sig file for more brain-melting ideas on "capitalism, art, culture" than you can shake a stick
at.
