Those of you interested in following the adventures of Faction Paradox authors in other ranges -- or indeed in the
history of the tainted bloodline known in The Book of the War as the Mal'akh -- may be interested in this book by Mags, Kelly and me, whose existence has
recently been revealed, with very little fanfare, at the Big Finish website. What with Lawrence's forthcoming CD in the same series, it's almost as if we're infiltrating
the range for our own nefarious ends.

I like the Benny radioplays but haven't yet read any of her books - I missed the whole Doctor Who novel phenomena and the New Adventures when they came out
:(
Will the antagonists be mentioned as Mal'akh in the book at all? (as in "this ancient writing refers to something called 'Mal'akh' ... I wonder what that means?") Or is it a plot point not to be revealed? On a side note - a December release, you may have to remind us again closer to the date :)

I'll clarify -- the actual stories don't, as far as I'm aware at this stage, have anything to do with The Book of
the War itself. While I wouldn't necessarily rule out a sneaky reference or two, the Mal'akh connection is pretty much summarised by the title
"...and the Vampire Curse".
Still -- Vampires! In Space! |

First reaction: Yay new Benny! I love Benny. Dearly. I'd nearly marry Lisa Bowerman's voice alone.
Second reaction: Ooh, new Benny from FP's creator and the bloke what wrote Of the City of the Saved...? |

As someone who stopped following what-a-gwan with Benny after the NAs - Do I need to know anything, convoluted backstory-wise, to pick up this book?
(I've had an eye on a couple of Benny books before - specifically one by you Phil, and Orman, Parkin and Arronovitch - but I get concerned I'm not going to follow half of it, so haven't bothered in the end) |

Warring States, I believe, is next on my list.
Besides which, I couldn't ever truly forget you, Mags. You have, quite possible, the greatest name I've ever seen in print.

...Diogenese FP references | #7 | ||
|
Further to what PHP said:
...it's almost as if we're infiltrating the range for our own nefarious ends. the audio after LM's "...and the Diogenese Damsel" is full of FP references from the first subtle hint of "she's not a member of any faction..." to the reveal of who the villain is, which requires a reading of The Book of the War to fully understand it... It's a bit of a continuity fest, linking Benny to FP, the new 8th ER audios and even Sapphire and Steel! |

Copies of The [Mal'akh] Curse have now been spotted in the public domain,
and there's a thread on it at Outpost Homeworld.
I'm going to be updating my website in the next couple of weeks with some extras relating to my novella, "Predating the Predators". These include notes on the novella and a short story which may be of more than usual interest to Faction fans. |

Hmmm... how badly does The Vampire Curse spoil earlier Benny books/audios? I'm many, many years behind in that series, but am likely to eventually
catch up.

Mags L Halliday wrote:I don't think any of them do, thinking about it. Kelly's appears to be set during Benny's travels with the Doctor, but it's completely inexplicit about it. Like Mags', it's also perfectly self-contained. For mine you need to know that Benny has a son. I think that's it, though. Otherwise the setting's independent of any earlier BF stuff, for reasons which should become clear from the novella itself. Mags L Halliday wrote:It is, and it's fab. As is Kelly's, which is the Native American bits of The Book of the War meet the Whedonverse. With some sequences in space. |
