Do any of the fine members here have any 'Things To Watch Out For'? in this book (cross-refrences to other novels, links to the Whoniverse, favourite page)?

Embarking on Warlords of Utopia |

I'm about to continue my journey into the Spiral Politic after reading The Book of the War, This Town Will Never Let Us Go and Of the
City of the Saved... with Lance Parkin's Warlord of Utopia.

I have all the Faction books, but have not yet read them - I'm going through the Renegade books with mentions of the Faction first (with long delays where
I am forced to read books shoved at me by my fiancée).
Although I have gone through the Book of the War a fair bit to create the wiki. |

You might want to brush up on your latin (or at least find an online translator) to catch some of the jokes.

Just don't read it too quickly and go missing half of the references as I did first time - the major one being Abschrift (think that's the spelling)
who may or may not be a character or related to a character with whom you may or may not already be familiar, if that isn't too much of a giveaway. And
I'm pretty sure it isn't. Nice avatar by the way.
OT, but I can't post it on the announcements page: Yay! Look at me being quoted on the Random Static website!!! I made it, Ma. Top of the world! Psst... wanna see some rocks?

I would definitely second felice's suggestion of making sure you get the Latin gags. It's also worth looking out for the shout outs to famous
alt-verses relevant to the premise, including (if memory serves) Robert Harris's Fatherland, Philip K Dick's Man in the High Castle, and Monty
Python's Life of Brian.
There's a possible "offscreen" appearance of the Evil Renegade at the very end, as well. |

My main problem with the book is that Lance Parkin doesn't seem to realise that Rosa Luxemburg was Jewish.
The Stacks - the site for

"Larry was with us in spirit" - Kate Orman

Thanks for all the pointers everyone - ironically since I started this thread I've been too busy to actually start the book! Bring on the weekend...
