But probably yes, and it wasn't that scary last time I went (admittedly this was five years ago or more)... don't think the geek set really know about the Tav, plus I doubt they enjoy beer, fighting, cigars or other noble pursuits so wouldn't be able to hack it.

Er... not sure how many of us are in or around London area - think Arfeim and the mighty Jim Carner might be but they don't seem to hang around here much these days. Maybe we could get a few of us together and go as some sort of gang (I'm thinking in the Boyz N Tha Hood sense of the term here). Anyway, it's easy enough for me - just one bus journey away.

Wooah. That was pretty good. Clockwork Tin Soldier grilled Lawrence at length (not in a culinary sense, obviously), Lawrence seemed jolly and enjoying the attention, and I stood by slightly frazzled, awestruck, and wary of the possibility of opening my mouth and coming out with something like "Gee - I think your stories are real swell, a-yuk!".

Here's what we learned:

Initial print runs of the Faction comic sold out very quickly, leaving no browsing potential in comic shops, plus LM said he thought he may have made an error of judgement in his first published comic being a non-action packed story set in the 18th century (such things being more publishable after one has built up a rep in the medium).

This Town Will Never Let Us Go was actually written by a building. I must admit I enjoyed the explanation for this one, and it rang a few bells. Tiffany Korta was not Christina Aguilera as I suspected (though that's a closer guess than Britney Spears).

LM's reply to my more talkative colleague's question of whether he would ever write another novel was along the lines of of course I will some day.

Internet folks are probably taking the Moffat commentary a lot more seriously than they need to.

Lawrence remembered me (!)... just about.

He no longer reminds me of Sexton Ming. With the haircut he now reminds me A LOT of Randy from My Name Is Earl. In fact the resemblance is uncanny. I guess this is also a compliment.

'Grass' was accepted by Fantasy & Science-Fiction straight away - Lawrence's first and only submission, the spawny get. He said though he realised the medium of the short story was not for him.

The beer at the Tav was fine and Star Wars was not mentioned once so far as I am able to recall.

It was a pleasure. Didn't really know what to make of the guy on the previous occasion, but this time it seemed clear that he cares a lot about what his "fans" (well... that's what we are after all) think, and also that he doesn't regard writing just as a career (like some of the other ex-NA writers seem to). Bit surprised at the platform boots though, still, takes all sorts...

The other two folks I mentioned (Arfeim and er... Mr.Treacle (Outpost Homeworld username - real name shared with famous NA author) pmed me back the day after to say they didn't get the messages until it was too late!

Joking aside, now it's me that's having the trouble with my memory. Was this a later revelation? I guess it could be, after all the Faction we've seen tend to hang out in the eighteenth century, whereas this seems to be a present day group (if such terms as eighteenth century and present day can be said to apply), and we've no reason to assume they would necessarily resist change.
