I've finally got around to reading this this weekend and OH WOW. I'm glad I kept myself unspoiled, it was absolutely wonderful. I loved the structure of the plot, the first two "books" showing the same events from Octavia and Liu's different perspectives, and then all coming together at the end. The subtext between them (fairly blatant IMO, more so than Justine/Eliza) is absolutely lovely too, particularly that final night in the cave. So I'm very much going for the happy they-can-make-their-own-fate now ending in my head.
Thank you very much for the praise - a review years later is something to be cherished as it shows there are still people reading it out there. It's
been such a time since the writing of it that I've forgotten what it was like to have Octavia and Lui's voices narrating in my head.
I'm glad you liked the Octavia/Lui duel/dual stuff. Of course there's the yuri reading of it and/or the taoist one.
I've still not had time to complete the online annotations, but the prelude - guest-starring Prester John - is still online.
