I would have enjoyed it much more if I wasn't so sure that I was going to be cheated. Larry agrees:
Right, I've got it. The Doctor is going to regenerate into someone completely different, either a well-known celebrity (if they want to make it look legit) or someone we already know from the series (if they want to go for comedy value, so Mickey Smith is a very real possibility). Then he's going to die. However, his DNA / Time Lord essence / biodata will somehow be transferred to a human host in the past, and it'll turn out that Donna has been a carrier of Doctorishness all the time. She's called "Noble" because she's a Time Lord, hence the second heart we can almost hear beating in her chest, the ludicrous coincidences, and all that jism about her "sacrifice". In other words, she's going to regenerate back into the Doctor we know, thus qualifying her as his most faithful companion. I noticed to my distress the "resources of the whole planet devoted to calling the Doctor" shtick, which is simply a rehash of what happened in "Last of the Time Lords", so I wouldn't put it past RTD to rehash the "it was all a dream, or might as well have been" ending as well. Also, when will people learn that John Barrowman simply cannot act distressed? When he tries, he comes off as snivelling. Compare his reaction to the Daleks with that of, say, Christopher Eccleston, who "sold" the threat of a single Dalek in a totally convincing manner. The Stacks - the site for

PS I was so right about Jack putting the moves on Sarah Jane, but then Davros could have picked that one with his third eye scratched out.

Unfeasibly excited to have my TV screen graced by both Richard 'who the fuck are you looking at?' Dawkins AND Paul O'Grady (in full-on 'what
was I drinking last night?' mode) all within the space of ten seconds. Otherwise, Larry's forecast sounds pretty believable, and, for me, too many
explosions, too much Wagner, too many people getting in touch with their feelings about other characters, not enough story. If Larrus Milus is wrong, I vote
for the next Doctor to be a fat guy who smokes like a chimney with a wisecracking robot for companion.

time for a game perhaps, who's the secret time lord in human form perhaps? maybe it's nobody and maybe it's somebody, either way it's fun to
speculate on all the possible what if's
Rose Tyler - possible but unlikely she has a human mother Jackie Tyler - maybe, it'd be an eye opener if it was her Mickey Smith - we see his mum in Father's Day so it's unlikely to be him Captain Jack - we see his parents in Adam (Torchwood) so again unlikely Sarah Jane - she's got an aunt and we never find out about her parents, although she has her own spin off series so I doubt it's her Martha/Tish/Leo Jones - again with the parents Francine Jones - now that would be a shocker! Clive Jones - RTD doesn't like Dad's much so I could see him making Clive a time lord and cutting him out of Martha's life... |

Kind of depends on whether you sit in the loomborn camp or the Timelord Mummies and Daddies camp. I'm militantly in the former, but nevertheless I'll
vote for Mickey and that wasn't really his mum, or him, or was it?

I'd never thought of it before (and I spend an inordinate amount of time in parts of the Internet where you can't move for people saying
"fobwatch!") but I bet Adjoa Andoh would do a fantastic job as a member of the Great Houses, all imperious and completely believable as being more
made of history than biology. I'm going to be disappointed when it doesn't happen now thanks to you, ushas.
The ep was great in a switch-your-brain-off-and-enjoy-the-spectacle way, but Miles is dead on when he says that RTD's strength is "little" not "big". The whole thing falls apart at a moment's thought and it's only a few key performances that really carry it. |
