Quite enjoyed it myself, and got that slightly sad fannish satisfaction from watching it all slowly line up with the correct state of play to lead into Pyramids of Mars, as well as obviously setting up for an interesting denouement in itself.

Given the possibility that time passes at different rates at each end of the time tunnel in the sarcophagus, could the "natives" on Mars evolve into Ice Warriors?

But then, what was all the business about the ones that were...

That could be part of the reason for bringing back Finton and Corwyn. But Lolita didn't seem all that different to me... obviously her situation has changed since the Mal'akh invasion, but...

The whole episode made me feel like I'd missed a story somewhere. All of the familair characters (especially Lolita) appear in forms that are unrecognizable. When did she go from Big Bad to zany aunt?

I thought the "something she ate" was just a joke, though it's possible the War King had defences that proved less digesteable than she'd anticipated. The Empire was too long ago and part of a different series, so I doubt that's it. I have trouble accepting the Mal'akh as being that deadly, too; they'd cause problems for the academician types, sure, but the House Military should have been able to make short work of them.

I really liked this one! Much more so than the last two on my first listen. I was pleased by the return of Finton and Corwyn, they make a good contrast and change from all the gods and super-powerful beings.

I have a vague memory that the New Adventures might somewhere have said that the Ice Warriors originally came from elsewhere. Alternatively this could be a long way into the past or the future - there's no reason the space-time tunnel has to lead...

Ok, it implies that they're relatively humanoid (they "don't have enough legs" to be insects), and since we haven't seen Ice Warriors without their armour, it's not entirely inconceivable that they...

Found this one to be mostly disappointing. Some of the exposition scenes seem to go on forever. So if the next one is the last, I don't think I'd be too disappointed.

There are clearly similarities between the Faction universe and the ER universe, but they're not the same. Personally I take this as evidence that there are no Ice Warriors in the Faction universe.

So I've just finished my first listen through and I must say, it rather sets up an epic finish in the next audio, whenever that will be. It may take another listen, but my initial impression is that not a whole lot actually happened... I mean, it was basically a whole bunch of set up and then ended right before the big fight scene... Still, amazing set up. Definitely a good story.

Reading the associated interview it does seem like the two audios this year will be the last though sadly.

Hmmmm. I seem to remember something along the lines of that CDs being closer to ER statement somewhere myself now that you mention it... no idea where it was though. That said I don't mind ER references here and there, and the Sontarans were great in those BBV CDs, plus if it helps to flog a few CDs thus meaning we get more CDs even better. I still think of the Osirians as being more of a reference to the mythology of a culture that took up an almost comically huge chunk of human history...

Yes, that sounds familiar to me, and it certainly fits the facts, with the Sontarans and Osirans and so forth. But with Sutekh and friends still playing a major role, I don't think there's any need to squeeze in additional ER references.
